Sikkim is an integral part of our country today, but it was not part of India before India’s independence. On 15 August 1947, Sikkim was an independent country. Prior to the reaction of people, Chogyal was removed from his post. On 10th April Chogyal signed the agreement and accepted the proposal to include Sikkim in India. In that time 97% of the people of Sikkim had supported the merger. And finally, on May 16, 1975, Sikkim formally became the state of India.
