Revolutionary Vinayak Damodar Savarkar Was Imprisoned For 50 Years
It will not be wrong to say, Vinayak Damodar Savarkar gave a new direction to the Indian independence movement. His courage, sacrifice, and struggle for the freedom of the motherland makes him different from others. Being associated with the independence movement only, the Britishers had sentenced him “double imprisonment” and he was kept in the Andaman Nicobar Jail. The Britishers gave him many tortured in jail. But still, they couldn’t succeed in break Savarkar’s courage. Today, we will discuss struggle of Indian fighter, Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. Savarkar means brave, renunciation, tenacity, logic, arrow and sword. Today, we will discuss struggle of Indian fighter Veer Savarkar. At the age of 11 only, he had dedicated his life to India’s independence. During the study, he had joined an organization named “Abhinav”. The people’s of this organization had dedicated their lives to India’s independence. He went to London for higher education and in London; he organized the revolutionary movement against the British Empire. At first, he had demanded the complete Swaraj. Due to the charge of the assassination of an English official, he was arrested in England and was brought to India by a ship of water. But in the middle of the sea, he jumped off the ship. In this way, he had escaped from the Britishers. But in France, he was arrested again. In the subsequent lawsuits, the British government sentenced him to “double life imprisonment”. I.e. 50 years sentence. He was put in the Andaman cellular jail. Cellular jail i.e. black water punishment. Even after all the tortures given in jail, Savarkar did not give up. Due to the atrocities committed by the British, his intention became stronger. In the same period Savarkar’s book “The Indian War of Independence” became very famous. The result was that the British government imposed a ban on this book. But after publishing abroad, the book continued to reach the youth. In this book, Savarkar lauded the Hindu Muslim unity in the Revolution of 1857. The book inspired youths of the country to fight against British rule. This is the sacrifice of revolutionaries like Savarkar, which is why today we are breathing in the open air.
